潮州銘... the Teow Chew Meng

潮州銘 or Teow Chew Meng is the first restaurant that I've visited for their Mee Suah Koh面线糊. It's a soup-based dish whereby the thin flour vermicelli is boiled with mixed ingredients such as shark fin, prawn, fish ball, mushroom, egg and being starched to create the slimy taste. Normally, people like to add in the black vinegar to enhance the taste. In short, it looks and tastes exactly alike the normal Shark Fin Soup.

On my second visit with my family, we've decided to order the Mee Suah Koh again. There's too much vermicelli inside the soup that has made the Mee Suah Koh becoming too thick and sticky. I personally prefer it to be a little more soupy. Additionally, we've ordered the Tomyam Seafood Soup冬炎海鲜汤 that comes with Maggi noodle and vermicelli. Quite balanced off between the sourness and spiciness with the various seafood, but I don't like the bitterness at the end of the tongue. I guess the lime juice has been boiling for too long?!!

We've also decided to try out some of their recommended side dishes, such as the Kerabu Mango芒果加拉母, Sweet and Sour Prawn酸辣虾, Steamed Octopus猪母酸, Fried Squid炸苏东 and Fried Prawn Cake炸虾饼. We've been ordering too much...

My Brother's favourite is the Kerabu Mango whereby it's the mixture of thinly sliced mango, fried cuttle fish, onion, cili padi, grounded peanuts and being seasoned with lime sauce, making it an appetizing starter. The Sweet and Sour Prawn is delicious with a good control between the sourness, sweetness and a little spiciness in the sauce. There's just a small discrepancy with the prawn that has been over-cooked that the meat has lost its juiciness.

I do quite like the succulent and juicy octopus but the mixed chili and grounded peanut sauce has somehow killed the freshness of the octopus. The sauce is tasteless except to smell the Chlorine. I'm as well dislike the squid that tastes chewy and hard with its thick flour coating. The Fried Prawn Cake has nothing special to be discussed except the softness.
I'm not really fancy about the food in Teow Chew Meng潮州銘. In fact, I'm quite disappointed as the quality has been degraded since my first visit there.

Pappa is Rich?

PappaRich has somehow existed in Penang for quite some time yet I've only managed to get myself into this Malaysian Delights lately. This franchise has been blooming up quickly, to present Malaysian cuisine from a different perspective rather than the old or dirty hawker style. It's a lifestyle changes to see various races of foreigners and especially the locals here.

I've of course ordered the famous Nasi Lemak or the rice with coconut milk that is served together with curry chicken, hard boiled egg, peanuts, anchovies, cucumbers and the Sambal sauce. The rice is a little too dry whereby aroma of the coconut is not appealing in the rice itself and I don't like the Sambal that is quite sweet instead of spicy. In fact, I'm quite dissatisfy to see the crack off from the edge of my plate. Anyway, this is a significant contradistinction to the Naan Bread that comes with a tasty curry sauce. The thick and salty curry sauce has indeed completed the missing deliciousness of the plain Naan. Additionally, I've decided to try the Otak-Otak or the steamed cake that is made from fish meat and spices. This is to my extreme disappointment that the Otak-Otak is smelly and it's tasteless!
My funny Boyfriend has decided to order the Fish n' Chips in this Malaysian Delights Restaurant. There's nothing to fancy about the frozen fish fillet except that the garlic fried rice has added some Oriental marks to this Western dish.

I don't find any specialty about this PappaRich Malaysian Delights except its name. The food is not leaving any tasty memories for me to have a must to re-visit...

FULL OF BEANS... It's Only About Beans

'Girlfriend, your blog is only about food, don't need to take picture la!'; This is how my Boyfriend reacts towards my thought to write about FULL OF BEANS, to share with you about the stories of coffee beans and to tell people about handcrafted specialty coffee. 'What is Specialty Coffee?', this quiet corner with its cozy ambient is emphasizing the importance of soil and water to produce good grade coffee beans to trade for a cup of satisfaction.

I'm firstly surprised by the 'fine-dining' concept of coffee culture here. Every decoration and furniture inside FULL OF BEANS are just classic and elegant. The menu is simple that it contains only about the listing of coffee with additionally a few types of tea and dessert. If you're a coffee lover, you can try various types of coffee that can range till RM50 per cup. I'm not a professional in coffee, I've randomly selected the Nicaragua Jinotega Papales Farm that costs RM28 per cup. The coffee is smooth with a slight bitterness aftertaste yet the taste and the aroma are somehow not thick and rich enough to capture my appetite. However, I'm totally glad about my first time to try out Macaron. This sweet confectionery is using butter cream or jam fillings to sandwich between two cookies and it's served cold here. It tastes mildly moist yet it's not sticky and easily to melt in the mouth.

No doubt that I'm quite happy with the surrounding in FULL OF BEANS that enables me to enjoy a cup of coffee in peace and silence. However, it's totally a disappointment for a gathering if your friend is not a coffee drinker.

Master Choo & His Kitchen? At 1st Avenue...

Finally that I've internet access in my new apartment and I can really settle down to write my articles...

Let's talk about Master Choo Kitchen at 1st Avenue Shopping Mall in George Town. 朱師父 or Master Choo Kitchen is presenting mainly Hong Kong style cuisine to his customers. Either the original Oriental flavour or the Fusion Western dishes, you can find various choices of food that ranges from rice, noodle, Dim Sum till Chicken Chop here.

'We're eating like a big Chinese family', this is always said by Attila to me...
I hope that I've remembered the name of all the dishes correctly; Here we've ordered the Shanghai Noodle Soup with Pork Chop上海排骨王汤面, Seafood Tomyam Noodle Soup冬炎海鲜汤面, Shanghai Dumplings上海锅贴, Steamed Prawn Dumplings虾饺 and Fried Dumplings炸虾云吞.

The Shanghai Noodle is somehow alike the white and thick round-shaped Japanese Udon, soaking in the clear soup that Attila and I have indeed enjoyed more the sweetness and refreshing taste of the soup itself. Looking at the oily pork, we've different opinions about the taste because Attila doesn't favour the marination with the fermented bean curd sauce. Moving to myself, Attila is teasing me as I've ordered a bowl of Tomyam soup here. After all, the taste is not too bad except that the soup is quite sweet and I don't like the river fish meat.

Look, the crispy yet soft skin of the Shanghai Dumplings! Shanghai Dumplings are normally filled with mixed ingredients of pork and vegetable. Firstly, the dumplings will be fried in oil and then being cooked slowly with water in the same pan. The pork filling here is quite compact that the meat has lost the juiciness. Anyway, I'm more disappointed that the dumplings are served with chili sauce instead of soya sauce with ginger slices. The Prawn Dumplings and Fried Dumplings are similarly filled with chopped prawn and pork. Personally, I don't really fancy over the dumplings as the inner ingredient is kind of hard and I'm definitely prefer to enjoy the natural sweetness of fresh prawn meat.

I'm not surprised by the taste of the food here but the meal is kind of worthwhile for its portion. One small warning, don't try to order like how we do ;)

Rock Your Pizza in Pizzeria Hard Rock Hotel

Hard Rock Hotel has been a new attraction point for Penangites, especially for those whom are in favour with their selling items of clothes and souvenirs. If you're looking for Italian inspired food, you may consider to drop by the Pizzeria by the poolside.

Preparing on-the-spot, you can see how your Pizza is served by the chef here. I've decided to try out the Pizza Contadinna that is topped with grilled chicken, onion, mushroom and parmagiana cheese. Additionally, I've asked for the Fettuccine Carbonara that comes with the white creamy sauce with mushroom, onion and turkey bacon. I've to be frank that I don't like both of the menu. Starting with the Pizza, the dough is not tasty by itself and the toppings are as well not 'salty' enough to add on deliciousness to the Pizza. I do quite like the creamy sauce of the pasta but disappointingly that the ingredients are not making good match with the Fettuccine. The sauce and the turkey bacon are separating each other whereby the sauce is not absorbed into the tasteless bacon.

I like the sunset view from Hard Rock Hotel and I've indeed enjoyed the moment to sit down and to relax here peacefully. However, it's kind of incomplete without a good Italian Pizza here.

Peri-Peri at Nando's

'Welcome to the best-tasting flame-grilled Peri-Peri chicken in the world!'; Don't forget to visit Nando's if you like grilled chicken and especially if you wish to try out some special sauces. In fact, this is the first time that I've discovered that Nando's is originated from South Africa and they're specializing in preparing chicken dishes either with lemon and herb, mild, hot and extra hot Peri-Peri sauces. It's amazing that the Peri-Peri marinades are absorbed completely into the chicken and the meat itself is tender.

The common order in Nando's will be the Chicken Meals that you can choose to have the 1/4 Chicken or 1/2 Chicken that comes with 2 Sidelines. The sidelines range from chips, coleslaw, corn, bean salad, grilled vegetable to Mediterranean rice to fill up your stomach. I've decided to try out the Chicken Pita with extra hot Peri-Peri sauce. It's really spicy and the taste is burning in the mouth.

Nando's is a new experience to grill chicken and the deliciousness is just unforgettable. The most wonderful taste is still belonged to the variety of Peri-Peri sauces here.

Same Name... L'OSTERIA, Yet in Langkawi

Browsing through the map of Langkawi, I'm attracted by the wording L'OSTERIA Italian Restoran & Bar and we've decided to try out this Italian food that is located at Jalan Pantai Tengah. I'm here with an expectation that I can find the tasty Pizza or Pasta that I've had in Germany.

Attila and I have decided to share two Pizzas; Pizza with Salami and Mushroom and Pizza with Pepperoni, Turkey Ham and Artichokes. Both Pizzas have somehow reminded us about the deliciousness of Italian Pizza back in Europe; the thin and crispy dough with a thin layer of cheese are the best combination that we've missed to have in Penang. I guess the only disappointment is without the Pork Salami. An Italian restaurant is just incomplete without pork.

Still on the journey to search for a Pizza place in Malaysia, that can fulfill our appetite...

Ex Prime Minister in Langkawi

Everyone keeps on whispering to me that I've to visit the bakery by our previous prime minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad if I'm happened to visit Langkawi Island. The wish is finally granted during my visit with my Boyfriend and friends, here I'm introducing The Loaf Bakery & Bistro that is located at Telaga Harbour Park by Pantai Kok.

I'm in fact quite disappointed because I don't find a wide selection of varieties of bread here. I've finally decided to go for their special drink of Cube 60°C. This is The Loaf's signature and unique brewed coffee whereby the Espresso is frozen to -60°C to concentrate the taste of the blended coffee beans. Then, being poured with hot milk to let the Espresso ice cube to be dissolved slowly; this is the method to enjoy the richness of the coffee in a milky way.

Additionally, I've tried the Cheese Cupcakes here. The surprise that I've from Cube 60°C is somehow destroyed by the dry and fluffy cheese cake. The cake is as well tasteless without the aroma and tastiness of cheese inside.
